Speech Tutor is the first of its kind in the field, bringing the latest in technology and animation to the world of speech. The animations in Speech Tutor make the areas of the face that hinder the view of tongue placement and positioning transparent. This innovative feature allows users to literally see inside the mouth as sounds are being produced!
Speech Tutor offers both a "Side View" and a "Front View" for each sound production, both of which can be viewed at three different speeds (slow, medium, fast). Users can also pause the animations at any point. With a total of 132 animations available, Speech Tutor provides helpful views and speeds for anyone in need.
However, Speech Tutor doesn't stop there. Non-SLPs can begin using the application by reading an easy-to-understand "Basics" tutorial, which lays a solid foundation of the fundamental knowledge needed before attempting to improve any or all English consonants. The application also provides detailed text specific to each sound, which further explains how each sound is physically produced. Licensed speech and language pathologists offer helpful tips, and milestones are provided to track progress in acquiring and mastering each sound. In addition to the animations, users can refer to a "Palate" diagram that visually demonstrates where on the palate the tongue should be placed.
Last but not least, users can choose to record themselves as they practice their target sounds and then listen back to their recordings before and after correctly modeling the sound.
